My Emmy at her recent birthday party! She's 3!

I don't do it every night, but a few weeks ago, I went in to check on Emmy, 3, before I went to bed.

As I pulled the covers up over her, she sat up, still dreaming, hair all over her face, and mumbled, "Mommy, I want to go too, OK?"

"OK," I said, making sure her Blankie was tucked around her, trying to keep her gently dreaming and not all the way awake.

And it struck me, that Emily VELCRO White, even dreams about me when she's not awake to be physically attached to me.

And she wants to be with me. A lot.

She wants me to wake her up in the morning. She wants me to brush her hair. She wants me to put her in the car. She wants me to put her DVDs in. She wants me to pick her up from daycare. She wants me to tuck her in. And she expresses her dislike vehemently, if someone else tries to take over for me.

Even when Ken tries to amuse her while I take a 15 minute break in the bedroom, away from the kids, she always manages to find her way into my lap as I sit almost relaxed after 3 minutes of solitude.

I am the main character in her small little Life Story. And it can be a little overwhelming sometimes.

That night, as I stood over her and watched her rub her Blankie as she went back to sleep, it occurred to me how lucky I am to be such an important Princess in her small little world.

I am so blessed to have such a sweet, sweet creature love me so much, that even in her dreams, I am the main character.

Because I know, as her little 3-year-old world gets bigger and brighter, my role will get smaller and smaller as she discovers a beautiful and open world out there for her to conquer.

Off of my lap.

So next time, I get annoyed because ONLY Mommy can give her her bath or ONLY Mommy can brush her long hair, I'll try to remember that sweet moment when I caught her dreaming about me.

Sweet dreams, Emmy.
