Have you ever thought about the fact that we can pray for anything?
If you really try to internalize what that means, life could get very interesting! For just a moment forget everything you know about the normal prayers you recite. Forget the canned prayers ... "God Bless our family. Forgive me for my sins. Bless the missionaries serving in a foreign land." All fine prayers that need to be prayed.
But for today, be a bit more creative First, acknowledge how BIG God is. Think about how much he absolutely and unconditionally LOVES you. Ponder for a moment how much he can do through you if you just let him work in your life. Just for today stop trying to help him out. Give it a try. Let him be God. Maybe for the first time in your life. Let him show you what it truly means for him to be Lord! Then from THAT place begin to pray like you never have before. As you close this prayer with the familiar "amen" let the magnitude of the moment and the possibilities of all that is to come wash over you ... Now believe like you've never believed that he is actually going to answer your prayer. As believers we should be experiencing VAST amounts of answered prayers.
These are some of my crazy prayers ... when I finally get to that place where it's more about him and less about me. Where he is in control. Where I fully and completely agree that his way is best. It is from that place, deep down in my spirit that find the words like these (some are more serious than others) ...
Give me the once in a lifetime chance to make someone feel absolutely and wholly loved or special or cared for. Make another name of God become real to me (Prince of Peace, Comforter, My Strength, Healer, Almighty God)
Give me wisdom.
Amaze me.
Make me laugh so hard my side hurts.
Help me forgive someone who has crushed me.
Help me find a parking spot. (LOL!)
Give me the opportunity to love someone who can do absolutely nothing for me in return.
Make me a better mom.
Help me think more clearly.
Give me insight into where I have put my car keys. Perhaps they have eloped with my cell phone because I can't find it either.
Help me listen, really listen to someone ... not just hear.
I know, some are more serious than others. But like I have said before, if you can't be real with God then who can you be? And as sad as it may sound, some days losing my cell phone and my car keys is a real crisis!
So for today, give this a try. Pray like you never have before ... and then BELIEVE like you never have before.
Then there's the tough part ... WAIT on God.
