Farmers will have a chance Tuesday night to talk with state officials about the recovery from Hurricane Irene.

Meeting targets Irene recovery

State agriculture and emergency management officials will meet this week with farmers and representatives from the agriculture and agribusiness communities to discuss progress and concerns related to the recovery from Hurricane Irene.

The first meeting will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Edgecombe County Cooperative Extension Service Livestock Arena, 1175 Kingsboro Road, Rocky Mount.

Among the officials attending will be Bob Etheridge, a special adviser for hurricane recovery efforts; David Smith, chief deputy commissioner of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; and Aaron Martin, state director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency

Representatives from the N.C. Farm Bureau also will attend.
