Southern Bank names three vice presidents

Southern Bank has appointed three vice presidents in its Rocky Mount office.

The new officers are:

  • Kenneth E. “Ken” Sawyer Jr. – Senior vice president in Southern’s commercial banking service.
  • John A. “Allen” Corbett III – Vice president and commercial lender.
  • William P. “Will” Johnson – Assistant vice president and community banker.

A 16-year bank industry veteran, Sawyer attended East Carolina University and completed the Management Development Program at the N.C. School of Banking at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and the Commercial Lending / Real Estate Schools of the Risk Management Association at ECU. He also serves as a board member of the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce.

In civic life, he serves a board member of the Down East Partnership for Children and is a member of the Tar River Civic Club. He previously served as treasurer of the Nash, Wilson, Edgecombe and Halifax County Chapter of the N.C. Autism Society.

Corbett is a Rock Ridge native and a graduate of Barton College in Wilson, where he earned a degree in business management/sports management. He has been in the banking industry for six years and is a member of the N.C. Bankers Association’s Young Bankers.

In civic life, he is on the cabinet for the Wilson County United Way Campaign, is a member of the Middlesex Church of God Board of Elders and has been a member of the Wilson Boys and Girls Club Advisory Council.

A native of Rocky Mount, Johnson received a bachelor’s degree from Barton College. He also earned a master’s of business administration from ECU and completed the university’s Commercial Lending School.

The six-year banking industry veteran is a member of the Rocky Mount Area Jaycees, N.C. Bankers Association’s Young Bankers and the Wilson County Young Farmers Association.
