The Pevensie children are going on an adventure.

It’s 1940, and Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy have been evacuated from London to the countryside to escape the Blitz. While exploring the home of Professor Digory Kirke, Lucy discovers a doorway to the magical world of Narnia.

What follows is an adventure that will test each of the children and challenge what they know about right and wrong. The story of that journey will be explored in the Tar River Players’ production of “Narnia,” a musical adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” co-director Dawn Whitehurst said.

The show will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in McIntyre Auditorium at Edgecombe Community College. The show will feature a cast of 46, including 30 children.

“So many children had come up and requested that we do it. It is just a very beloved story,” said White-hurst of Tarboro.

The musical follows the familiar story of the fight between the White Witch, who has cursed Narnia to have a never-ending winter, and Aslan the lion, who seeks to free it, said Betty Temple, the play’s publicity coordinator.

“The play is basically about the battle between the forces of good and evil, Aslan being the leader of the good Narnians and the White Witch being the evil queen of Narnia,” said Temple of Tarboro.

The singing and dancing in the show add a new dimension to a family favorite, Whitehurst said. Songs featured in the show include “Turkish Delight,” “Hot and Bothered,” “Murder Today” and “Field of Flowers.”

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens, college students and staff and groups of 10 or more.

Tickets will be available at the door.
