A student at Northern Nash High School died in a one-vehicle accident about a mile and a half from the school Monday afternoon, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Alexandra Meredeth Tweedy, 16, was driving on Reges Store Road shortly after 2:30 p.m. when she lost control of her vehicle, according to Patrol reports. Her vehicle ran off the right side of the road. She tried to correct its path, and the vehicle crossed back over the road and ran off the left side where it overturned, hitting a utility pole.

Patrol reports were unclear about whether Tweedy died at the scene or at a hospital later.

The accident marks the first teenage traffic fatality in Nash County in 2012. A teenager in Edgecombe County died after a traffic accident in February.

Alex

Alex, You will be greatly missed. You had a beautiful smile that could light up any room. Jaimee and I loved you and will miss you every day. I know that you make a beautiful angel though and that you are not suffering anymore. My condolences go to your family and friends.

Angels in heaven

Alex was an adorable young lady with a beautiful smile, that could bring cheer to anyone, she was a charm to have I'm my bible study group, and to see her blossom from a young child to a lovely girl. The angels in heaven are crowding around her and knowing that she is with God is a blessing. My prayers are with her family during this time, and may God watch over them during this difficult time. Alex was the light of their lives and it is sad that she was taken from then at such a young age. God be with them & Bless them through this difficult time. Alex you will truly be missed...

Beautiful Alex

Oh how saddened I am right now...I can't even begin to imagine how the Tweedy's are handling this. Alex's bright smile and personality will live forever in our hearts. Heaven has a new angel and we on earth are left to ponder how such a bright beautiful young lady could be gone so quick. They say time heals but time stands still at a moment like this. The Tweedy's are in my prayers. I love you little Alex and I can't wait til the moment I see that smile again!! I miss you already!! Misty Holloman Proctor
