Rocky Mount Area Jaycees celebrate 2015, look ahead to new year

The members of Rocky Mount Area Jaycees have much to celebrate in 2015. We established an active chapter within the first three months of the year, already growing it into one of the largest in North Carolina.

Our membership features capable, enthusiastic, principled and results-oriented young professionals, several answering the call and providing critical leadership to facilitate our growth, host activities, build financial reserves, perform valuable community service, organize fundraising and restore a visible presence of the Jaycees as a local civic leader.

Next year, our new board, led by President Brett Hill, will continue these efforts and provide members and friends with a great program of service, socializing, networking and engagement. We will also begin providing sustainable, lasting benefits to the Rocky Mount area through initiatives identified with the Jaycees’ model for lasting service, the Active Citizen Framework.

We will grow our membership, build stronger relations with Jaycees beyond Rocky Mount, and set ourselves as an example for professionalism, innovation and effectiveness in responding to and addressing local challenges.

This includes establishing ourselves as the “first destination” and impression for new and returning under-40 professionals; working to recruit and retain the critical skilled human capital in Rocky Mount and achieving substantive and meaningful economic growth.

As an organization, we need your help, as members, friends and supporters, to make this happen. Brett and his board need your involvement, from showing up to leading to providing resources and donations, to execute the phenomenal activities and projects I know they will bring forth.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve this year as president of the Rocky Mount Area Jaycees. To my fellow members, remember, this is your organization. To everyone, I can only ask you to continue to do your best to take action.

This is your community, and the opportunity to take individual ownership and achieve success is out there.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.

Kenneth Hunter Jr.
