Say ‘no’ to more government spending through bond referendum

For whatever reason (constituent requests, complaints, a temporary return to fairness), the Nash County commissioners are allowing residents to have a say in the next proposed bonded indebtedness for the county.

It seems the community college desires another building. Though the final cost hasn’t been disclosed, it should end up around $9 million.

There has never been a better time to reduce government spending than today. We are under an addiction of taxing and spending at all levels of government, and even with the nation in the grips of an economic malaise that many of us have never seen before, there is no willingness on the part of elected officials to eliminate any nonessenrial spending. Let’s send them a clear message by voting “NO.”

This bond of indebtedness will be on the May primary ballot, and most public officials and civic leaders will flock to add their endorsement. That leaves you and I to marshal our forces and defeat this proposal with a resounding NO vote.

This has little or nothing to do with the particular institution asking for the money or where our friends and relatives might be employed. The spending must stop, Our government payrolls and cost must be significantly reduced. Now is the time to rise up and say NO!

This is also a great time for fiscally responsible conservatives to file for local offices.

Begin making your list and checking it twice. The May election will be here before we know it. Let’s thank the commissioners for giving us a say and let us say, NO, loudly and clearly.
