A small group of wealthy landowners in Oak Level want to deny the constitutional rights of all others.
If these land barons were really opposed to annexation, they would have gone to the Nash County Planning Board and fought against the massive densities that have gone on in the area.
No, this would have stopped these land barons from selling tracts of their land to these same developers and making huge profits off the sale.
Now these land barons are running a propaganda campaign against anyone who favors annexation.
The U.S. Constitution guarantees one man, one vote – meaning all of affected, including Rocky Mount residents get the right to vote on annexation.
Oak Level today has housing densities that demand city water, power and police protection.
When you have houses as close together as they are in Oak Level, the well and septic tank system will break down in the near future.
It is just a matter of when they will collapse and raw sewage is floating in the yards.
They need to be annexed now.

I thought I had heard a lot of crazy comments in the past about why annexation is beneficial - but, this caller takes the prize. Undefined rights, Land barons, Propoganda, US Constitution, sewage floating in the yards? Caller, you are way uninformed. Do you think Oak Level is without water, power, police protection? Let me make you informed - I have all of that - and I'll just keep what I have, thank you. That is benevolent on my behalf so the city doesn't have to spend any money on me, and maybe, just maybe, they won't raise your taxes - or utility bill further, but I can't promise.

It would be interestng for the caller to make a list of the rights that the so called "land barons" are denying to others and exactly who those others are. We are not guaranteed one man one vote, except in elections for representatives. Our representatives have decided that the higher right to not be captured by an ajoining municipality without a vote is worthy of a vote also. The one's affected are the landowners since they are the ones who would have had to pay these taxes. Those landowners have decided against it. You don't get more constitutional than that.
The only raw sewage I see floating is the specious arguments.
