Police seek shooting suspect

Rocky Mount police are searching for a 17-year-old suspected gunman.

Around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, police were at Walmart when an officer reportedly saw Michael Sharkeem Wilson walking with Trevon Deandre Rice. Police said the officer went to arrest Wilson for an outstanding warrant when he said he found a .22-caliber revolver in Wilson’s pocket. Rice was not charged and he was released.

Wilson was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and served with the outstanding warrant for possession of stolen property. He was jailed in Nash County under a $4,000 secured bond.

Rocky Mount police responded around the same time to a shooting on the 200 block of East Tower Lane. The 19-year-old victim told police he was behind his house when he was shot in the hand by Rice, according to police reports. The victim was treated and released from Nash General Hospital.

Officers obtained a warrant against Rice for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Rice has not been apprehended. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Rice is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 977-1111 or crimestoppers@rockymountnc.gov.
